Beyond the familiar hunting grounds

Fixed frontier bands give experienced characters more dangerous ground to explore.

The world does not follow the player

Frontier enemies have geographically authored levels. They do not become strong only because a particular player approaches. A low-level character crossing into the frontier encounters the same dangerous territory.

Read the local band

Farther sections of the swamp, furnace, winter territory and wounded lands contain higher-level opponents. The far southeast reaches level 600. Check the map’s local range rather than assuming every part of a named region has the same level.

Approach with a purpose

Higher levels alone do not guarantee a more profitable hunt. Compare survival, kill time and equipment goals. Frontier areas are room to grow into, while rift floors offer a separate escalating combat route.

The new fixed bands

The Crossing of the Buried covers levels 170–220; the Quarry of Chains, 200–280; the Glass Spires, 250–350; the Sunken Aqueduct, 180–260; the Wound’s Edge, 320–450; and the Skyless Observatory, 450–600. Use the atlas’s local point and creature details to locate the band and check its name in the selected language.

An elite is still an elite

The frontier changes the levels of geographically placed populations; it does not turn every creature into a boss or give every kill a guaranteed special item. Ordinary and elite encounters remain different sources of pressure and rewards. A specific unique or set target should still be checked against its actual boss reward table.
